As we look towards the festive season the phrase ‘tis the season of goodwill’ keeps cropping up.
With this in mind, our friends at Challengers have teamed up with ‘The Big Give’ for their Christmas Campaign which runs from 3rd – 10th December and will match any donations received within this period.
Challengers provide exciting, challenging, and most importantly, inclusive play and leisure activities for children and young people with disabilities. 86% of disabled children don’t have access to regular play or leisure activities and Challengers aim to reduce this number, supporting over 1,400 individuals across Guildford and the surrounding areas. Their play schemes start from pre-school with the youngest being just 2 years old right through to adulthood with groups for 18-25 year olds. Feelings of isolation is a big threat for disabled young people, the opportunities to play and interact are can be limited and often young people can feel excluded. The staff at Challengers and the volunteers that work there change this; families feel confident that leaving their young person in Challengers care is not only safe but is an enjoyable experience for them and will provide them with an opportunity to socialise and enjoy themselves. Challengers is a truly inclusive charity adapting to each individuals needs no matter how complex.
“If we did not have Challengers there would be no opportunities for Beth to socialise and have new experiences and develop the way she does because of her age, and the fact she needs such close supervision and support, which at age 15 isn’t offered widely within communities. Her needs are understood and met effectively and communication with Challengers is amazing.”
Challengers rely on donations to keep these schemes running, without which, thousands of individuals would miss out on this weekly opportunity to socialise and interact with their peers. For the opportunity to double your impact, please take part in their Christmas Campaign between 3rd –10th December.
COINS Foundation is delighted to be a long-term partner and to be supporting this Campaign but there are many other opportunities to get involved with this fantastic organisation, including; paid roles, volunteering and fundraising activities – take a look at their page to find out more.
