Kiira View Secondary School opened in February 2009 in a rural area of Jinja district in Uganda. Education plays a major role in the COINS Foundation 360° Inclusive Community Development model. The COINS Foundation aims to help children to complete a secondary education which will lead to more opportunities for the individual with possibilities and benefits extending to their community. The Kiira View School serves the community of Butagaya overlooking the River Nile, near its source Lake Victoria.

- A library and laboratory
- An administration block
- One dormitory and quality sanitary facilities
The lack of public expenditure on Secondary schooling leaves millions of young Ugandans no opportunity to continue their education beyond Primary school level. A subsidy scheme has been implemented in Kiira View where by all running costs are met by fees and where richer boarding pupils subsidise the very low day school fees for those students who are unable to afford the fees.
So far the school has enrolled 200 students for this academic year. 26 of those children are boarders and the majority are girls. These enrollment figures are very promising for the sustainability of the school. In the next five years the number of places will rise to 1000 students meaning that many hundreds of young Ugandans will benefit over the next 10 years. In addition, 15 jobs have been created in the rural community of Butagaya through teaching opportunities and other ancilliary posts. |
