The COINS Foundation is passionate about supporting strategies which will help to build and sustain inclusive communities.
What is an Inclusive Community? A community where no member is excluded or disenfranchised by virtue of their health, impairment, education or poverty; a community which recognises the right of all its members to equity of opportunity; where those with strength support the weaker to be strong; where the wealthy support the poorer to prosper, where the wise support the uneducated to learn.
We have no set ‘prescription’. We recognise that, while principles may be universal, the problems are usually local and must be addressed on the local level. Everyone has the right to be engaged in the evolution of their own community and so we are committed to working in close partnerships with local agencies. We recognise that no one strategy will address all the issues. To date, the COINS Foundation has become interested in a range of strategies which we feel are fundamental ingredients of a sustainable community which cares for all of its members; Schools and Education, Hospitals and Healthcare, Homes, Inclusive IT and Micro-Finance
The whole is greater than the sum of the parts! The COINS Foundation is interested in the co-ordination of all of the above strategies in one community to create a truly Inclusive and sustainable community.
What are we doing? The foundation has identified a partner in the community at Kawama in northern Zambia. Kawama is a community locked into poverty, and working to overcome the enormous impact of HIV/AIDS, inadequate education, low employment, poor housing and health care. Despite these challenges, the community of approximately 22,000 is vibrant with creativity and optimism. |
